US TRIP: Lake Tahoe PART 3

After Trevor and I drove 6 hours up to Sacramento to surprise his mum for Mother's Day, we spent the day around Lake Tahoe with Chris.

Our journey began early Sunday morning as we headed to Chris' beautiful new home nestled between the mountains in Incline Village, Nevada.

The plan was to go for a bit of a drive with Chris' Huracan, and take some photos of his car by the crystal-clear blue lake, then see where the day took us.

It was my second time visiting Lake Tahoe this year with Trevor, and both visits have left me craving more. There is something so awe-inspiring about this place that soothes the soul and allows you to slow down.

We were surrounded by majestic peaks all round, unspoiled forest and one incredibly blue lake. It was the perfect place to unwind and shoot the Huracan.

And each time we pulled over, the peaceful serenity made me feel a sense of tranquility, which was exactly what I needed after all the stress I've been experiencing with the big move over to the US. And hearing the straight-pipes from the Huracan roar through the bends instantly put a huge smile on my face, and I wasn't the only one! Every person stopped and stared with huge grins on their faces as the Huracan passed by. The curious even stopped us and didn't hesitate to ask: "What is that car?! Can I take a photo with it?!"

We then made our way up through the breathtaking, snow-capped mountains and each corner reminded me of my trip to New Zealand last year. It is actually crazy how similar the two places are.

With summer on the way, the snow was starting to melt onto the road causing the Huracan to get a little dirty, so we pulled over to give the car a quick once over with the Ice Spray Detailer by Turtle Wax, before taking some more photos of the car.

We spotted a few people out hiking in the snow and regretted that we didn't pack our hiking gear with us. I'd really love to do a sunrise or sunset hike in the mountains, as Trevor and I are still yet to go on any hikes together since I've been here. Must. Stay. Active! 🏃🏼🏃🏼‍♀️

After taking a million photos, we decided it was time to grab a bite to eat, and a visit to Tahoe wouldn't be complete without stopping at my favourite restaurant - The Lone Eagle Grill.

We ordered pretty much the same as last time, which was the Ahi Tuna Poke, and the Durham Ranch Angus Burger (my fav) and we also tried their special Crab Cake Eggs Benedict.

Our initial plan was to stay in Tahoe until sunset, however with the long drive ahead of us and the fact we both had work at 7 in the morning, we decided to leave town after lunch and make our way back down to SoCal via the scenic route.

We said our goodbyes to Chris, who recommended that we pass through Mono Lake on our journey home, and of course we didn't make it very far without wanting to stop pretty much every 10 minutes to take photos. The landscapes were far too beautiful to not stop!

One of my favourite parts of a road trip is not only experiencing the great driving roads, but expericing the evolution of scenery, like watching a movie unfold through the windshield.

Each sweeping corner provided beautiful vistas all round and although the ETA home kept creeping later and later past midnight, and our sleepy eyes were longing for rest, we couldn't help but pull over to the side of the road and take out our cameras to explore more.

If only we had more time!

As we passed through the valleys on the US Route 395, Mother Nature put on a spectacular show of pastel-lit skies as the sun descended beyond the never-ending mountains.

I could not believe how magical this place was and Trevor and I agreed that it wouldn't be the last time we would explore this beautiful destination.

Sadly the last bit of light disappeared, which meant it was time to hop back in the car and continue our journey home.

Until next time Tahoe!

Has anyone else done any road trips around this area? I'm hoping to explore Yosemite next!
