What To Do In Mount Shasta

On a recent trip to Northern California’s Mount Shasta region, we found ourselves falling in love with the magnificent, awe-inspiring wild corner of the country. It is truly an outdoor lovers dream, filled with various activities to get you staying active; from mountain biking to hiking, fishing, rock climbing, and more, Mount Shasta has it all. Our journey began down in Southern California, where we stopped for a night in Sacramento to break up all the driving and to also pick up our friend, Ricky who would be helping us film content for a few brands we are working with. We then headed to Mount Shasta for a 3-night stay at Loge Camps, before embarking further up north to Bend, Oregon. Here’s what we got up to…

WHERE TO STAY

LOGE Camps Mt. Shasta

We spent a total of 3 nights here, and the overall experience was great. LOGE is catered for outdoor junkies like us (which we love) and each room comes with a Yeti cooler, hammock, racks to hang your bikes, and more. Everything about LOGE revolves around creating a sense of community (another thing we love), and on any given day they have live music, game nights, workshops, and movies for both guests and all members of the local community. A huge thank you to Josh from LOGE Camps for being an amazing host and showing us all the go-to spots!

WHAT TO DO

Shasta Gravity MTB Adventures

Shasta Gravity Adventures gives you access to 3 different mountain bike shuttles, professional MTB skills clinics, guided adventure tours, and outdoor events. We were lucky to have a one-on-one session with Christian and his son who showed us the Gateway trails. This was definitely a highlight for us and we highly recommend adding this to your itinerary.

McCloud Falls Hike

McCloud Falls consists of the Lower, Middle, and Upper Falls and HOLY MOLY you guys, this gem quickly made the shortlist for my favorite places in California. Middle falls is definitely the magic spot!

Lake Siskiyou Hike

Lake Siskiyou has a lovely beach and spectacular views of Mt. Shasta if it isn’t cloudy. We were lucky enough to have all clear days and to witness a magnificent sunset over this lake.

Castle Lake to Heart Lake Hike

While we ran out of time for this hike, I hear the views of Mt. Shasta from Heart Lake are magnificent and the hike isn’t too difficult either. Check Alltrails for difficulty level.

WHERE TO EAT

Yaks

We came here every day to either get breakfast burritos or wraps at lunch. They also have a few vegan options!

The Garden Tap

We LOVED this place! It was set in a super cute nursery where they cooked wood-fired pizzas. Yum!

Hari Om Shri Ram Indian Cuisine

The service at this place wasn’t the best, but we ordered takeout and the food was delicious. They have vegan options too!

Pipeline

The boys went here for beers and loved it!

Berryvale Grocery

This is where we stocked up on fruit and snacks.

I think getting outdoors during the pandemic is critical for mental and physical health. Studies have shown being outdoors can help with depression, anxiety, stress, blood pressure, and other ailments. Do I recommend a short road trip during the pandemic? Yes, but only if you can commit to wearing a mask, be diligent both while grocery shopping, and when hiking around other people.

Let me know if you have you taken any road trips during the pandemic and if yes, was your experience a positive one?
