Eating Above The Clouds @ Post Ranch Inn
Commanding the cliffs 1,200 feet above the Pacific, Post Ranch Inn and Sierra Mar, (which means Mountain Sea) is probably the most luxurious place that I have ever come across, and it's been at the top of my bucket list for quite some time.
Since we were already in Monterey, we decided to drive down to Big Sur (it was closed last time we went) where we made a reservation for their special pre fixe, 3 course lunch to celebrate one year from when I first flew over to America. I honestly cannot believe it has been a year already!
We arrived at the restaurant around noon and were lucky to get a table right in the corner. The floor-to-ceiling windows allowed us to gaze right out over the ocean before a huge cloud of fog came rolling in. From this moment on, it was as though we were sitting literally above the clouds!
All booths and tables are situated to maximize the benefit of the scenery, where they all face outwards towards the ocean. The sleek, sustainable woods and interior design are meant to be the backdrop to the wall of windows that frame the Big Sur Coastline. I can't wait to return on a clear day to see how everything looks, and highlight how beautiful this spot really is. Although, even on a foggy day this place does not disappoint!
For course one, we got the chef's salad which included fresh heirloom lettuces, apple, almond, roasted fennel, and a tasty lemon vinaigrette. We also got the smoked trout and potato soup which were both delicious. For course two we got the grilled corvina (fish) and the housemade papparadelle (pasta) which again, were both delicious and the flavors were amazing. Not going to lie, I had to lick the plates! And for our last course we got the lemon poppy cake and the peanut butter bar which we literally ate it within seconds!
The presentation of each dish was just gorgeous, and everything tasted so light and fresh.
You can see why this place is an award-winning restaurant!
The entire experience at Sierra Mar was perfect, and I'm so happy to have ticked it off my bucket list. From the jaw-dropping architecture which blends seamlessly with its bluff-top setting, to the exquisite food... it surely was a romantic way to spend this special moment, and I look forward to visiting again soon!
